Lantern Festival - Take One

The New Year festivities end with the Lantern Festival - and Xiamen puts on a spectacular show with participants from around China making displays. This year we went in a group with many of our friends from the Jiaozi Party. Unfortunately it had been wet so it was extremely muddy underfoot. This year was even bigger than last year, with both East and West sides of Bailouzhou Park being used. The organizers had even set up a food court-style area for people to buy snacks and meals from. So, of course, food was the first order of the evening. The displays are based on the "year" - this year is the year of the pig. Sebastien enjoyed his perch, seeing over people's heads. We wandered past display after display and really only managed to see about half before we decided the kids were really too tired to continue. So we headed to the bus-stop to catch a bus home - Alex and Emma checked out the water fountain display complete with lights and music and were then sidetracked by one of the many street sellers peddling their wares - in this case, lit-up tops with music. They even squeezed in a quick game of tag.
We all waited together at the bus-stop - but we were taking different buses (sadly for the kids).Although pooped, Alex and Sebastien stayed awake the whole trip home
