Hospital visit #2

We were up bright and early - in no way due to the fact that Alex and Sebastien are both awake before 6am...

Again Sebastien was fasting so we decided to bring Alex's breakfast along so she could eat it whilst Sebastien was otherwise occupied.Although we were admitted at 7am into the ped ward, they sent us up to the day surgery waiting room. Another delay meant that Sebastien didn't go in to surgery until 10.30am. This meant that there was plenty of time for Alex and Sebastien to enjoy the new toys.We also ended up with Daddy and the kids back in the Captain Starlight playroom for a while to eat up the extra time. Mummy came down to get them when Sebastien's turn in surgery came.Alex got to come back to the day surgery suites with Mummy, Daddy and Sebastien - there was a cool tiny toy room there with a whiteboard and markers that was loved. This time it was Daddy's turn to don the scrubs - and explain to Alex what was happening! Daddy's shoes were almost too big for the special paper overshoe scrubs...Sebastien had fallen asleep again by the time we went back to the surgery waiting area. And then we left him in the same anaesthetist's care. He was out and in the recovery room by 12.10pm with a new catheter in place. He woke up beautifully and Alex enjoyed the walk to the day surgery ward from recovery as she "helped" the nurse wheel Mummy and Sebastien there. Sebastien had the drip in his foot again and enjoyed the good drugs!

This time we saw that the nappy modification was a slit instead of a circle - who knew?! So once again Mummy modified enough nappies to last us until we got home. The day surgery area had lots of cool food for a hungry boy like jello/jelly and yoghurt. Alex enjoyed her special snack (read dry cereal of a sugary nature) whilst watching a children's movie on the tv - can you tell that she didn't want to share with Daddy?Sebastien was happy enough to drink juice and eat bananas - the nurses were amazed with the amount of food he was able to put away! Then we were discharged at 2.30pm after seeing the surgeon and hearing everything was looking A-OK. Phew.

We had made an afternoon appointment at an optometrist nearby for Alex - as a check up now she's almost 5 - so we made our way over there. Sebastien and Daddy made good use of the toys in the waiting area whilst Alex got to ride on the big chair - she went very high! This was her first checkup since she was 2 so we went through the works. We even got to check out some special colourblind-checking pictures - this was important as Mummy had been a little concerned that Alex might be colourblind (she often called purple and red "blue" which we hoped was a result of her being corrected when she was first learning colours and everything was "red"). All was fine and she certainly enjoyed herself!

Back home for a quiet night in for tomorrow was going to be go, go, go!
