For Golden Week public holiday, Alex came home with her notebook (a small booklet which the teachers and parents communicate backwards and forwards in that will also include her half year and full year report) and a note that told us what her homework was.
At first translation, we thought we were making a fruit baby to bring to class - huh? I was imagining a plate of sliced and diced fruit put together to resemble a person, but a second and third opinion on the translation clarified that Alex was to bring to school a small animal or plant as a project to be closer to nature. Oh well, we'll save that fruit baby for another day.
The second part of the homework was for Mummy and Daddy to do - a folder cover for her that included details such as her name, birthday, gender (important in a country where names are somewhat gender-indistinct, if that is even a concept) and important milestones (in a three year old's life??) so on the last day of the holiday, we sat down to do the homework instead of our Chinese study/practice.
It took several hours that night plus some grammatical corrections from a couple of Brett's students the next day, but the finished product (in actuality printed in black ink on green paper - Brett was teasing me with the pink - I think?) is here (click on the image to bring it up larger - you may actually be able to read it):
