The end to a horrible week

And so it was that Sebastien broke out into a rash the same as Alex's - though not as inflamed nor obvious. And it's hard to capture in a photo - but I felt gratified that perhaps they had both suffered from a virus. Alex had made a new friend - Sam - and we'd met up with him for some english play dates. He also attends Xia Da's kindergarten though he'll only be here a year as his father is on a Fulbright. This week Alex cried about going to school. Very tough.

On a positive note, after a lovely playdate with Sam and his mother at their apartment, we went to the restaurant next door and had our final Bo Bing gambling with the University's foreign relations faculty getting together to eat dinner and gamble for more household items. Alex had a ball, winning the top prize of a blanket and we also managed to come home with more soap, toothpaste and toiletpaper. Sebastien passed out at last and we laid him on the small stage to sleep whilst the games were finishing up. We were thankful that our new friends (who hadn't done too badly themselves at Bo Bing) offered to take the lion's share of our items upstairs to their apartment and to bring them, plus a highchair from a previous Fulbright family, to our apartment over the weekend. It made getting home easier plus we had another play date to look forward to at our place.

This was also the weekend that the milk scandal opened up in China. So we threw some items out and started buying soy - at least until we came back from our upcoming visit to Australia - in the hopes that we hadn't been affected by the melamine.

And finally it was the weekend we celebrated Sebastien's first birthday at Pizza Hut (see the post on 21 October 2008).

Not a bad end to a horrible week.
