Bye-bye baby curls

Alex was two and a half before she had her first haircut - for a girl, having your hair cascade down your back is no big deal. It's also when she enjoyed her first lollypop (boy - looking at these photos that seems like a long time ago now - only 2 years).Sebastien had the curls too, but out of the humidity of China the style was more mullet than curly crop. So it was we found the time after his birthday to visit a specialty children's hairdresser just a few blocks from our apartment. Sebastien enjoyed sitting in the car so much that he didn't stir a muscle whilst his hair was trimmed - all to the accompaniment of many comments about his hair colour, texture etc. Several parents sounded a little shocked to see us cutting his curls off. The smocks they put on the children have sleeves in them. It really wasn't a hot day, but Sebastien was still sweaty on his head which was commented on - the hairdresser amazed she didn't need to spritz him with water. Since this was a special children's hairdresser, they had a selection of ways parents could commemorate their children's first haircut - one of which I plan to do but you'll read about that in a later post. So here is the collection of the golden curls.
Because we had gone with Jamie and her two boys (she's a native chinese speaker) we managed to convey what we needed to get done. Sebastien was also content to sit and play quietly afterwards and wasn't very happy to leave at the end.
And here he is - a proper little two year old boy. Not much different at the front but all the curls gone at the back.
